My name’s Ben

I’m an Aussie living in Canada.

If you’re reading this, then you probably want to know a little more about me.

In short, I love video games, cats, and ramen. I also love spending my time traveling (weird, right?) while photographing and writing about everything I can take in around me.

When it all boils down, I’m pretty much a regular guy with a love and respect for travel.

Travel has taught me so much about myself, the world we live in and the different walks of life through my experiences traveling that I regard traveling as the best teacher – if you’re willing to listen and learn that is.

So, why did I create Horizon Unknown? Well, it’s simple.

I want to help you fall in love with travel as well!

I’ve been there, terrified of unknown horizons and foreign aspects of this world. I learned, from many mistakes along the way, how to save money and make the most of every day on the road.

How to overcome a culture shock and make a positive impact as often as I can.

It’s not always easy and I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way.

Horizon Unknown is here to help you become the traveler you’ve always wanted to be.

BEST TRAVEL STORIES ABOUT HORIZON UNKNOWN

Since I left Australia for the first time in 2013, I’ve visited more than 60 countries, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

I love experiencing new cultures and meeting new and unique people.

During the years, I’ve developed this sort of “try everything once” mentality. Kind of like “YOLO”, but for a 32-year-old.

This perspective on travel may occasionally get me into situations I would never think of being a part of again, but damn they make for a good story!

Budget blogger Horizon Unknown Culture shock blog

This mentality creates some amazing stories:

  • Visiting the polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba
  • Trying the “sour toe cocktail”, a shot of alcohol with a real severed, donated, human toe in it
  • Local delicacies like fermented shark, snakes, scorpions and plenty of other insects along the way

I will get to all those stories on this blog and plenty more one day – I promise!

TALKING ABOUT TRAVEL CULTURE SHOCK

While culture shocks can be challenging, I like to put myself into foreign situations and let the experience teach me something new.

TRAVELING THE WORLD BETTER ON A BUDGET

Travel doesn’t need to be expensive to be amazing. You can explore many parts of the world a lot cheaper than you would expect.

In the end, I’m just a pretty ordinary guy, that has acquired a wealth of knowledge about travel from the last 7 years on the road.

I’ve learned the good and bad (and terrible) of travel – mostly from my own silly mistakes.

With over 60 countries visited and no plans to stop anytime soon, you’ll find plenty of specific destination tips – just click the country image below!
